Back at the start of the year, I was lucky to be invited to the annual general meeting of the RBL Women’s Section, a branch that I have been a member of for a few years. They asked me to write about my experience for their IN TOUCH magazine. You can see the article below.

Jess Sands is married to an RAF pilot and has recently joined the Women’s Section. She attended this year’s AGM and is sharing her experience below.

‘I would like to convey my thanks to the Royal British Legion Women’s Section for an inspiring AGM in January. As the wife of a serving RAF pilot, I am no stranger to the brilliance of women within the military community. However, as a new member of the Wives’ & Girlfriends’ Branch I was a tiny bit nervous and unsure what to expect when attending such an established event. Happily, I found the Guild Hall in Winchester filled to the brim with the most welcoming and inspiring group of women.

The main aim of any AGM, of course, is to determine the focus over the next year, but this AGM was also a celebration of the hard work and fantastic fundraising achievements of 2018. Sprinkled within the legal requirements were fascinating accounts of the work of the Women’s Section, and of course an inspiring speech from our President, The Princess Royal. HRH Princess Anne spoke of the importance of the Women’s Section and the outstanding difference it is making to those in the military community. She is so very proud of the section and as one of the newest members of this group of wonderful women, I feel exactly the same!

So a big thank you to all the inspiring women at the AGM who have 􀃥filled me with not just a passion to get more involved, but have served as a reminder that the women like me, who look after ‘the home front’, are just as much in the thoughts of The Royal British Legion as our serving partners and Veterans.’
