Don’t Wait for the ‘Right Time’: Why Now is the Perfect Time to Launch Your Business

Have you ever found yourself thinking, “I’d love to start a business, but…”? The “but” is often followed by a list of very real challenges that come with military life: frequent postings, deployments, and the general chaos of juggling family life. It’s easy to feel like you’re waiting for the perfect moment – a moment that, let’s be honest, rarely, if ever, arrives in this Armed Forces life.

But what if you didn’t have to wait? What if now, amidst the beautiful chaos, is the most opportune moment to start building something for you?

I started Milspo because I believe in empowering military spouses, partners, and other-halves to build sustainable businesses that thrive in our modern military lives. The plan is to help you transition from feeling overwhelmed and isolated into a confident, focused entrepreneur, because I have been there and I know the difference it can make to this military life. I know the unique challenges you face because I live them every day. That’s why I created the Business Launch Accelerator Start-Up Course.

This free, eight-week course is designed to take you from an initial idea to a full-fledged business, providing a clear roadmap and the tools and the team you need to succeed. It’s all funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, which means it’s completely free for you.

One of the recent graduates, Bekky, a busy Navy wife and mum of three, knows this journey all too well.

She had a brilliant business idea born from a hobby she loved: sewing beautiful, unique clothes for her children. But life kept getting in the way. After a posting to Gibraltar, where she was pregnant and then faced with the start of the pandemic, she found it incredibly difficult to get her business off the ground. She was isolated, post was sporadic, and the regulations were a minefield.

Bekky confessed, “I was kind of getting the feeling I needed to get back to doing something. Something just for me really.” She felt the pull to create something that was hers, something that could be portable and flexible enough to fit around the unpredictability of military life.

But, when she discovered the Business Launch Accelerator course, she was hesitant. It hadn’t worked before, would it work now? But she took that leap of faith, signed up, and never looked back.

Bekky also joined during a particularly challenging time. Her husband was deployed, and a family member was seriously ill. She had every reason to quit. But she didn’t.

She dedicated her evenings to the course, even when she was exhausted. As she put it, “If you really want to do it, then do it. You will make it work.”

Now, her business, the Crafty Starfish, is thriving, with an online shop and even a space in a local store. Her children are proud of her, and she’s building a legacy that is truly her own.

The course covers everything you need to know, from registering with HMRC and choosing a business name to navigating mindset and running a business through deployments and moves.

Bekky’s story is maybe just the reminder you need that there will never be a “right time” to start.

There will always be a posting, a deployment, a childcare juggle, or a house move. The key is not to wait for perfection but to embrace progress.

As Bekky so wisely says, “It doesn’t have to be perfect… I’ll get it out there and then I can change it later. I can always… Nothing is set in stone, things are changeable.”

We want to give you that same opportunity to launch the business you’ve always dreamed of.
